i kept going...so did they
today i drove through that one part of town, the section that has the most thrift shops. i saw a man whose right leg had been amputated. he didnt have much use for the left one, so he just rolled along in a wheelchair. which is understandable, considering crutches are hell on ones armpits. the moment i saw him i felt sorry for him, and then realized that it is very possible that he is content with the way things are, i kept driving. i saw a middle aged hispanic man, wearing a forest green sweatshirt and a dirty pair of jeans, riding his bicycle in the same direction i was going. we made eyes contact and i quickly pulled my vision away. he seemed sweaty and uncomfortable in the conditions he was under. who knows what was going on at home, but its pretty bad right here, right now. my eyes then fixed themselves on a girl, about 10 years old, dressed as if she was a fequent roamer of the red light district. she had a black purse hanging on her right shoulder that was probably filled with anything she could find, such as a brush, strawberry chapstick and some of those little tissues that come in a plastic wrapper. her stride told the street that she owned that sidewalk. when the light on orange st and colton ave turned red, i looked to my left and saw an elderly woman in an old faded blue ford. her sandy gray hair, with a few blonde streaks in it, was jumbled on top of her head with a silver barrett. for some reason the varnished gold ring on the index finger of her right hand stood out. i wonder who gave it to her? she could have gotten it from a twenty-five cent machine or maybe she just bought one day to dress up her once young hands...i kept driving. i decided to stop my romantic eyes from meandering off into other peoples lives. i kept on going and so did they.
